2. Training Objectives:

2.1. General Objectives:

The Bachelor of Social Work program is designed to foster the knowledge, skills, and professional qualities of future social workers. Students are equipped with core knowledge in political theory, law, social sciences, humanities, and natural sciences, enabling them to become ethical, dedicated, and competent professionals. Graduates are expected to:

  • Master specialized knowledge and practical skills in social work;
  • Conduct research, identify, and address social issues at the individual, group, and community levels;
  • Provide professional social work services in welfare, health, and educational settings;
  • Participate in research and apply findings relevant to social work practice;
  • Develop digital competencies that align with the requirements of the Fourth Industrial Revolution;
  • Adapt to diverse working environments, uphold community service, and demonstrate autonomy and responsibility as professional social workers.

2.2. Specific Objectives:

The program is designed to equip graduates with the following knowledge, skills, and professional qualities:

SO1: Provide students with core knowledge, including: (i) General education (political theory, law, national defense and security, social sciences and humanities, foreign languages, information technology, and digital competence aligned with the national digital framework);(ii) Professional education (foundation, specialized, and professional knowledge of social work).

SO2: Develop essential competencies of a social worker, focusing on: Understanding theories of psychology, society, and human behavior; Applying social work knowledge to professional practice; Using English in professional contexts; Implementing laws and policies to protect vulnerable groups; Conducting social work research; Applying intervention processes with individuals, families, groups, and communities; Enhancing self-study and research capacity; Building soft skills in communication, problem recognition, foreign language use, and digital literacy to adapt to the challenges of the 4.0 era.

SO3: Cultivate ethical standards and professional values, including: Commitment to responsibility, dedication, and integrity; Professional conduct and exemplary lifestyle; Adherence to the philosophy and mission of social work; Awareness of the role and function of the profession; Capacity for autonomy, accountability, and responsibility in learning and practice.

3. Learning Outcomes:

Upon completing the undergraduate program in Social Work, graduates will acquire knowledge, skills, and professional responsibility as follows:

3.1. Knowledge:

  • LO1:Demonstrate accurate understanding and practical application of political theory, law, national defense and security, as a foundation for advanced and professional studies in social work. Attain foreign language proficiency at Level 3/6 (Vietnamese Framework), demonstrate IT literacy, meet the national digital competency framework, and apply AI tools in learning and research.
  • LO2: Apply knowledge of basic sciences, natural sciences, social sciences, and humanities to analyze human behavior theories, psychology, and sociology for practical support to clients.
  • LO3: Describe key theories, models, methods of social work, and concepts of social welfare and social policy.

3.2. Skills:

  • LO4: Apply individual, group, and community social work skills to provide support services that strengthen the problem-solving capacity of individuals, families, and communities.
  •  LO5: Implement social policies and advocate for clients’ legitimate rights, while providing feedback for policy adjustment.
  •  LO6: Use English for professional communication and research (equivalent to Level 3/6 of the Vietnamese framework). Apply IT effectively for work, legal research, and problem-solving in the digital environment. Adapt to diverse digital technologies for professional interaction.

3.3. Autonomy and Responsibility:

  • LO7: Uphold professional ethics in social work; demonstrate self-learning, autonomy, and accountability in professional and social responsibilities. Show respect for the law, integrity, and a strong commitment to serving people, communities, and the nation.
  • LO8: Work independently or in teams under changing conditions; take responsibility for personal and group tasks, including training and supervising others. Demonstrate social responsibility, serve the community and the country, and adapt to evolving contexts of social work practice.

4. Program duration: 4 years

5. Career Opportunities:

Graduates of the Bachelor in Social Work program can work in the following positions:

- Social workers in government and non-government agencies; supervisors, policy makers, or cultural–social officers at central and local levels; staff of social and political organizations (e.g., Women’s Union, Red Cross); or professionals in institutions providing social services in health care, education, law, and social welfare;

- Program officers or project managers in fields such as child welfare, health care, and community development, working with social organizations and NGOs at national and international levels;

- Life skills educators in schools and educational institutions (from preschool to high school, vocational training, and continuing education centers);

- School social workers or teachers providing interventions in special education;

- Researchers in social sciences, contributing to studies and proposing solutions for social issues;

6. Further Study Opportunities:

After completing the Bachelor in Social Work program at Vinh Long University of Technology Education, graduates will be able to:

- Pursue lifelong learning and continue their studies at the master’s level in Social Work or related fields, both in Vietnam and abroad.

- Conduct independent research projects at institutional level or participate in research at higher levels in the field of social sciences.
