1. TRAINING OBJECTIVES
1.1 General objective:
The Data Science program aims to train bachelors with political qualities, professional ethics, and digital competence; a solid foundation in mathematics, statistics, programming, and data science; skills in data analysis, processing, and visualization; and the ability to design and implement applications of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Big Data for digital transformation. Graduates will be capable of working effectively, self-learning, and adapting to rapid technological development.
1.2 Specific objectives (SO):
Graduates of the program will possess the following knowledge, skills, and qualities:
- SO1: Possess the knowledge of political theory, national defense and security, physical education, understanding of the Party’s guidelines and the State’s laws; knowledge of entrepreneurship and English.
- SO2: Acquire the knowledge of mathematics, programming, computer science, and information technology foundations to support research in Data Science.
- SO3: Collect, analyze, and process big data; develop skills in data mining, database construction, and data storage organization; model, design algorithms, and implement software systems to solve Data Science problems.
- SO4: Work in teams or independently; acquire entrepreneurship skills; develop research capacity for applying new technologies; form the autonomy, accountability, industrial discipline, passion for the profession, professional ethics, and social responsibility.
2. ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
2.1 Entry requirements
Applicants must graduate from high school or equivalent and meet the requirements of the Ministry of Education and Training as well as the annual admission plan of Vinh Long University of Technology Education.
2.2 Eligible candidates
High school graduates or equivalent.
3. LEARNING OUTCOMES
3.1 Learning outcomes (LO)
Upon completion of the undergraduate program in Data Science, students will acquire knowledge, skills, autonomy, and responsibility as follows:
3.1.1. Knowledge:
- LO01: Apply foundational knowledge of politics, law, Ho Chi Minh Thought, national defense, natural sciences, physical education, and digital technology to adapt to professional environments in the digital transformation era.
- LO02: Apply fundamental and advanced knowledge of mathematics, statistics, programming, algorithms, computer networks, databases, and programming languages to solve practical data analysis problems in industry, finance, and society; ability to evaluate digital tools and AI applications in data analysis.
- LO03: Apply core knowledge of Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, data mining, Big Data, Cloud Computing, Computer Vision, and modern technologies for data analysis, visualization, and data-driven decision support.
3.1.2. Skills:
- LO04: Solve practical problems using knowledge of natural sciences, social sciences, political science, and law; apply critical thinking, logical reasoning, problem-solving, and basic digital tools for organizing, analyzing, and presenting knowledge; maintain good physical health and adapt well to academic and professional environments.
- LO05: Present data analysis tools, languages, and software; apply them to collect, process, and visualize data from various sources; analyze problems and choose suitable techniques; evaluate Machine Learning models and decision systems; design and implement data analysis solutions in practice; apply problem-solving skills in digital environments.
- LO06: Evaluate results produced by Artificial Intelligence models, Machine Learning algorithms, and software systems; identify limitations and propose improvements in practical applications.
- LO07: Use English effectively in reading specialized documents, researching new technologies, and communicating in academic and professional international environments; meet prescribed foreign language standards.
3.1.3. Autonomy and responsibility
- LO08: Work independently or in teams in real data analysis projects; communicate effectively, present results clearly and logically; adapt to digital environments, new technologies, and rapidly changing labor market demands; cooperate, support, and supervise others in digital spaces; adapt flexibly to technology and AI tools.
