2. Training objectives:

2.1. General Objectives:

- The Ph.D. program in Mechanical Engineering aims to develop scholars with advanced expertise aligned with Level 8 of the Vietnamese National Qualifications Framework. Doctoral graduates will possess rigorous scientific thinking, profound research capacity, and mastery of specialized domains within Mechanical Engineering. They will be capable of establishing and leading research groups in specialized, interdisciplinary, and multicultural contexts; communicating effectively through modern technological tools; and demonstrating both social responsibility and professional ethics.

2.2. Specific Objectives:

Upon completion of the Ph.D. program in Mechanical Engineering, graduates will:

  • SO1: Demonstrate mastery of theories in Mechanical Engineering, with emphasis on applications that enhance agricultural development and exploit the geographical advantages of the Mekong Delta. They will be able to identify and develop new knowledge and methodologies, particularly within the context of Industry 4.0 and digital transformation, thereby contributing to academic and technological advancements in Mechanical Engineering.
  • SO2: Attain proficiency in scientific communication, including the preparation of scholarly publications, oral presentations, and discussions, while effectively employing modern communication technologies. They will also demonstrate the ability to collaborate and engage in international and multicultural research environments.
  • SO4: Exhibit a strong sense of social responsibility and maintain strict adherence to professional ethics.

3. Learning outcomes:

Upon graduation, Ph.D. graduates in Mechanical Engineering will achieve knowledge, skills, and professional autonomy as follows:

3.1. Knowledge
  • LO1: Possess advanced and specialized knowledge at the frontier of the discipline.
  • LO2: Acquire comprehensive and fundamental knowledge of Mechanical Engineering.
  • LO3: Demonstrate knowledge of organizing scientific research and developing new technologies.
  • LO4: Attain proficiency in a foreign language that meets the standards prescribed by the Ministry of Education and Training.
3.2. Skills
  • LO5: Master scientific theories, methods, and tools for research and development.
  • LO6: Synthesize, expand, and enrich professional knowledge.
  • LO7: Apply logical reasoning and analytical skills to address scientific issues, proposing creative and innovative solutions.
  • LO8: Manage and lead research and development activities effectively.
  • LO9: Collaborate and work effectively in international and multicultural environments.
  • LO10: Have at least 02 published papers on dissertation-related research results, including at least 01 article in a journal indexed in ISI/Scopus; or, alternatively, at least 02 presentations in international refereed conference proceedings, or 02 articles in peer-reviewed international journals.
3.3. Autonomy and Responsibility
  • LO11: Exercise expert-level judgment and decision-making in Mechanical Engineering.
  • LO12: Demonstrate the capacity to manage research and assume responsibility for continuous learning, knowledge development, professional advancement, and innovation in ideas and processes.

4. Program duration:

  • Standard duration: 36 to 48 months
  • Maximum duration: 72 months
  • The program is offered in two study modes: full-time (continuous) and part-time (non-continuous)
  • Full-time (continuous): 3 years for candidates with a Master’s degree; 4 years for candidates with a Bachelor’s degree.
  • Part-time (non-continuous): 4 years for candidates with a Master’s degree; 5 years for candidates with a Bachelor’s degree. Candidates must complete at least 12 months of continuous study at the university, with a minimum total study time equivalent to 3 years.

5. Career opportunities:

Ph.D. graduates in Mechanical Engineering will be qualified to work as:

  • Lecturers and researchers at universities and colleges in Vietnam.
  • Research staff at specialized institutes, research and development centers, and enterprise-based R&D departments in Vietnam and abroad.
  • Postdoctoral researchers in Vietnam and internationally.

6. Further study opportunities:

After graduation, doctoral degree holders are eligible to pursue postdoctoral research in Vietnam or abroad.
